We Work: Our Process
The Office of Web Communications
uses a finely developed process that ensures communication
success and avoids communications failures.
Closely collaborating with our clients,
we first begin with a discovery process. This allows us to
help the client develop goals that consider both their needs
and the needs of their Web audience. The discovery process
gives us the information we need to begin our work on the site
using the following steps:
|
| Phase
1: Discovery |
- Client intake survey and
meeting
- Inventory of existing content
(in both Web and print)
- Benchmarking and concept
research
|
| Phase
2: Strategy and Information Architecture |
- Site maps
- Content inventory
- Wireframes
|
| Phase
3: Creation |
- Copy writing and editing
- Photography
- Mock-ups
|
| Phase
4: Build-out and Launch |
- HTML prototypes and templates
- Testing (platform, accessibility,
usability)
- Site build-out
- Promotions plan
- Site documentation and training
- Launch
|
| Phase 5:
Maintenance |
- Standard maintenance (link
checks, accuracy checks and copy updates)
- Fine-tuning site features
in response to statistics
|
Development of the site is only part of the process. We work
closely with our campus clients to plan strategies to help
market their sites and to develop long-term plans for the sites
care and further development.
A good working relationship
with our clients is critical to the process and we consider
them to be official members of the team with their own set
of responsibilities. This provides an environment that allows
the client to take “ownership” in
the process and become an important part of the successful
launch of their new site.
Finally, we maintain contact with the client after the launch
of the site to make sure that we are continuing to meet the clients'
goals for their Web site. We gather site statistics and use these
to make informed changes or improvements to the sites.
