Browser testing is critical in Web
development to insure that all audiences are able to access information
via your Web site. It's important to know your users and first
analyze user statistics to identify target browsers. Once you
know what browsers and platforms the majority of your site visitors
use, you'll be able to prioritize your development time. For
example, if you know that 80 percent of your audience uses Internet
Explorer for Windows, you can know you'll want to make sure you
site displays well in this browser. You can then work on the
bugs for less popular browsers before the site is finally launched
to the public.
Web Communications currently tests
using the following browsers and platforms:
For Windows:
- Internet Explorer 6.x, 7.x
- Firefox 1.x, 2.x
For Mac OSX:
There are several other browsers that are not on this list,
but we've found that the majority of our users use one of the
browsers above. We monitor our usage statistics and browser trends
frequently and adjust our browser test list accordingly.
